1. How did you start/learn illustration?

Started when I was young, around 13, I failed all aspects of art education at school

so it's mostly self taught.

 

2. What inspires you when you illustrate?

Music, art, books.....everything,

it changes all the time, right now my ideas are being inspired by the following....

 

The 'Skin & Bones, Parallel Practices in Fashion and Architecture' exhibition at London Somerset house,

showing how architects and designers 'fashion' buildings and 'construct' garments.

Photography from the 60's / 70's such as Larry Clark's 'Tulsa' and Nat Finkelstein's 'Edie Sedgwick'.

Andy Warhol and Paul Morrissey films.

Book - Japrocksampler, How the Post-war Japanese Blew Their Minds on Rock 'n' Roll.

 

3. What type of object do you illustrate mainly?

Women and cult or easily recognisable imagery.

 

4. What materials do you use?

Paper, pens, paints, photographs and computers.

 

5. What is the concept for your illustration works?

To create a striking image that's appealing from afar but inspiring up close.

 

6. Why do you choose "illustration" as the way of your expression?

It's translates well on clothing and I enjoy doing it.

 

7. Is there any artists/illustrators who you're influenced or you respect?

Lots, M/M Paris I really like and as mentioned before Andy Warhol.

 

8. How do you define "fashion illustration"?

The communication of fashion designs through illustration.

 

9. Please explain the background of each illustration works you pick.

All the designs are created for each collection we've made over the past seasons.

 

10. Is there any project/work that you want to do with illustration in the near future?

I've just done 2 commissioned t-shirts, 1 for a shop in Tokyo called 'Idea by Sosu' ran by the

designer 'Mihara Yasuhiro', for their 3rd birthday,

and the other design is for the online shop Oki-ni who are celebrating their 7th birthday.
